What we build with
Plants of Najd growing on the sand
Behind the words, desert sand seen from above, in late light, and on it a tais (طعس), a great crescent dune, with its steep side in shadow. Our work lies dug into the sand as worksites, each project's mark on the floor of its site, among the pressed marks of the tools it was built with. Round each site its own team works, as dabbs; now and then one of them walks to the mark of the tool its project was built with, looks, and comes back, and its prints stay in the sand. Beside the sites lie small scenes: camel prints leading to SANAM, stakes and a string marking a plot by Kingdom Land, a goal drawn in the sand by Kick Arena, a small black goat-hair tent by ASMAR Heroes, and a detective following a line of prints to Jinaya. Labaik Badal lies on a plate on smoothed sand, with no one near it. A few small plants of Najd grow there; their flowers open where the sun falls. On a phone, one worksite at a time, every few seconds the next; above the headline a row of seven small openings in the sand, one for each work, shows which one is in view.

Three homes
Seen from above: three dabb homes, one for each office, joined by trails. Dabbs dressed as the team come out of any home and walk to another — a shemagh and thobe, a suit and tie, a topi and waistcoat, glasses, headphones, a laptop on the back, and a few with bright colours across the back. Now and then two stop, stand tall and face each other.
